Iftar (Ramadan Breakfasting) 2009

Dear Supporters and DonoIftar in a poor coastal village in Belawan, North Sumatra Province, attended by children, men and women.rs…

With your help and donation, Alhamdulillah this year IHSAN has, again, managed to provide poor people in poor areas with locally good meals for their Iftar or Ramadan breakfasting. This time around, we visited 9 places (villages) including those in coastal areas well known for their structural poverty.

Like last year, we prepared so-called “nasi kotak” or “meals in box”, which is always associated with “luxury meals”, for the Ramadan breakfasting events.

We made a £2.oo per head appeal for this purpose. In total, we received donation from you for this year’s (2009) annual project up to £2,064.oo which equal to 532 fasting persons to be invited to the events.

But, Alhamdulillah, with good negotiation skill our volunteers have and good relation between them and some local restaurants, the total donation has in fact managed to feed more than 1,000 people.

The next pictures show their residents.

Breakfatsting (iftar) also took place in two other coastal villages in North Sumatra, the Village of Perupuk and the Village of Guntung. Below are some pictures of the events.

Most of the people invited for the iftar (breakfasting) in villages of Perupuk and Guntung are those who live in this sort of housing.

Next stop is Kampong Panjang, still in North Sumatra, but part different district. About 200 people attended the breakfasting together evening.

And then, we went on to the most populous city in Indonesia, Tanjung Balai. Here, IHSAN entertained children and poor people in a local kindergarten premises as pictured below.

From Tanjung Balai, “buka bersama” (in English means “breakfasting together”) was also taken place in the Village of Percut, about 40 km from Belawan, in an old grand masjid (mosque). Here, children are the majority.

There some more places where we held “buka bersama” (breakfasting together), including two villages in East Java. Insya Allah, we will send you the pictures.
