Strongly motivated by huge challenge in the reconstruction of the Tsunami disaster, in December 2004, affected areas, IHSAN (Indonesian Humanitarian & Social Aid Network), a charity organisation, was formally established on 29th January 2005.

The immediate mission was to provide the humanitarian/emergency aid for the community affected by the Tsunami disaster, directly and/or working in partnership with other local NGOs. Due to emergency reasons, whilst applying for its official existence with the UK government’s Charity Commission, IHSAN had started doing some limited humanitarian and social projects for the Tsunami survivors in Aceh and in the Island of Nias, funded by the generosity of the British people, who trusted their donation with IHSAN.

After anxious moments, finally on 17th August 2005, the Charity Commission gave their approval and since then IHSAN is an officially registered charity in UK with registration no. 1110909. This gave IHSAN wider opportunities in organizing fund-raising activities either by ourselves or through joint appeals with other charities or organisations.

One of the opportunities, was that IHSAN, on 21st January 2006, managed to organise fund-raising dinner, held in London Muslim Centre, to commemorate One Year Aceh Tsunami tragedy. This was a significant occasion for IHSAN, as a newly established charity. Through this fund-raising event IHSAN was able to present information about the current situation in Aceh to as many people as possible across the UK and giving them a better understanding on the day to day problems faced by the people in Aceh. Whilst at the same time serving the guests with Indonesian meals to bring them closer to the Indonesian culture in order to encourage them to donate more.

To date, IHSAN has managed to establish its network working directly and/or indirectly with other local NGOs in providing the humanitarian/emergency aid for the community affected by disasters and also to run social/community projects for the poor in Indonesia.

In working through other local NGOs, IHSAN would form a close cooperation with trusted local partners. This way IHSAN would be able to monitor the work and spending. This what would make IHSAN so valuable and distinctive.
